3. How Does Color Grading Work? 🔧
The color grading process typically follows these steps:
1️⃣ Filming in RAW or LOG format – This captures the maximum dynamic range for flexibility in grading.
2️⃣ Editing the footage – The film is cut and assembled in the editing process.
3️⃣ Color Correction – Fixing exposure, contrast, white balance, and matching all shots.
4️⃣ Applying Color Grading – Adding a unique look or style to enhance the film’s mood.
5️⃣ Exporting the Final Film – The film is then exported in the final format for distribution.
Once the edit is locked, the footage is handed over to a colorist, who works with the director to create the film’s final look.

There are several software options for color grading, but here are the most popular ones:
✅ DaVinci Resolve – The industry-standard for color grading. It’s free and extremely powerful.
✅ Adobe Premiere Pro – Includes Lumetri Color Panel for basic color grading.
✅ Baselight – A high-end tool used for professional films.
💡 I personally recommend DaVinci Resolve because it’s powerful, free, and widely used in the industry.
5. Essential Hardware for Color Grading 🖥️
To become a professional colorist, you need a good setup.
Minimum PC/Laptop Requirements:
💾 16GB or 32GB RAM – For smooth performance.
🎮 GTX 1080 Graphics Card (8GB VRAM) – Essential for handling high-resolution footage.
⚡ SSD Storage – For faster loading and rendering.
🖥️ Intel i7 or higher processor – Color grading is CPU-intensive.
💡 A PC with these specs will cost around R10,000 – R15,000, but you can always upgrade later.

What You Need:

💡 6500K Kelvin Bias Lighting – A neutral white light placed behind your monitor.
